Q & A WITH SHEILA RONNING
How long can I expect to work toward my goal of corporate board service? We hear that, on average, it takes 2-3 years of actively working toward the goal until you attain a seat We have, however, had several of our members get on a corporate board within 1-2 years of joining WIB as a member. When you are working on this goal on your own, you can easily put in 20 hours per week. When I talk to our prospective members, I ask that they have 5-10 hours committed per month.
What are the main reasons for pursuing board service? I hear of many different motivations for serving on a board. Some enjoy the intellectual challenge or the service to others. Some find it to be a fulfilling 'second career'. The enhanced resume or reputation can also be driver. While everyone's motivation is different, nearly everyone agrees that they get more out of every meeting than they give.
OUR VISION
We create an environment where women can achieve their goal of leadership & corporate board service, while encouraging them to assist & mentor other women along the way.
OUR MISSION
We prepare women for leadership & corporate board service by giving them the knowledge, tools & connections to learn, advance & lead.
